Guide Background
The Collector Leviathan patrols the stretch between the Lava Zone and the Alien Ruins Plateau, and that crossing looks much more dangerous than it really is. The safest approach starts from the Tadpole Pens and uses the rock formation to the left side of the pens as natural cover.
Before attempting the crossing, it helps to have your Tadpole ready and the Scout Ray Upgrade chassis from inside the Tadpole Pens equipped or on hand. The route works because the Leviathan tends to patrol above the lower ledge rather than reaching cleanly into the rock overhangs below.
Operation Steps
Step 1: Leave the Tadpole Pens and move left
Start at the Tadpole Pens, get into your Tadpole, and head toward the area on the left side of the pens. Do not drift out into the open water toward the patrol lane.
Step 2: Drop straight down along the edge
Once you reach the left side, go straight down the edge toward the lower rock ledge. The key is to stay low immediately instead of trying to cross the middle of the area.
Step 3: Follow the rock ledge along the bottom
Ride the ledge and keep close to the ground as you move forward. This lower path is the safe line. As long as you stay tucked against the ridge, the Collector Leviathan is much less likely to get a clean attack on your Tadpole.
Step 4: Hide inside the rock cover if the Leviathan approaches
If the Leviathan turns toward you, pull into one of the recessed gaps under the rocks and wait. You can nestle underneath the overhang and let it pass. It may seem close enough to hit you, but it usually cannot reach properly under the formation.
Step 5: Watch for an opening and climb up the cliffside
When the patrol moves away, continue along the ledge and work your way back up the cliffside toward the Alien Ruins Plateau. If you stay low and keep moving along the edge, you can usually get up the slope before the Leviathan circles back.
Step 6: Enter the Alien Ruins Plateau area
Once you reach the plateau near the Alien Ruins, the Leviathan normally does not chase far into that section unless you are actively engaging it.
Important Items
Tadpole
This route is done in the Tadpole. Keep it positioned close to the terrain instead of cruising high in open water.
Scout Ray Upgrade chassis
The recommended upgrade to bring from the Tadpole Pens. The route is still about movement and cover, but having the upgrade on hand is advised before attempting the crossing.
Rock ledge and overhangs
These formations are the whole reason the route works. The lower ridge gives you a line to follow, and the recessed spaces under the rock act as emergency hiding spots.
Alien Ruins Plateau
This is the destination on the far side of the patrol zone. Reaching this upper area usually puts you out of the Leviathan's immediate pressure.
Key Notes and Tips
- Stay very low to the ground for the entire crossing.
- Do not take a wide route through open water if you can help it.
- The Leviathan's shadow on the ground is one of the easiest ways to tell where it is while you are hiding below.
- The music becomes much more intense when the Collector Leviathan is close, so use the audio cue to decide when to stop or move.
- Be careful with crush depth while hugging the lower part of the route.
- The Leviathan patrols a fairly short path rather than roaming the whole area constantly.
Tips and Tricks
- If you panic, do not sprint upward into open space. Slide into the rocks first, then reassess.
- Peek out from under the overhang only enough to confirm whether the patrol has moved away.
- The crossing is safer when treated like a terrain-following route, not a speed run through the middle.
- If you know the patrol is nearby from the music, wait a few seconds instead of forcing the climb early.
- Once you learn the ridge line, this becomes a very reliable way to pass through without fighting anything.
Summary
The safest way past the Collector Leviathan is to leave the Tadpole Pens from the left side, drop to the lower rock ledge, and follow the ridge while staying close to the ground. Use the overhangs as cover whenever the Leviathan comes near, then climb up to the Alien Ruins Plateau once its patrol gives you an opening.
