How to Find Troilite in Subnautica 2

Troilite is one of the most limited materials in Subnautica 2, with only a small number of fixed spawn nodes in the current build. Careful handling matters, because spending all of it on Mangalloy Ingots too early can block access to more through Metal Farms.

Guide Background

Troilite is currently a heavily limited resource in Subnautica 2. In the present build, there are only eight Troilite spawn nodes in the entire game.

That limitation matters because Troilite is tied directly to the Metal Farm system. The intended progression appears to push players toward using Metal Farms for continued supply instead of relying only on natural nodes.

There is one major risk: if all of your Troilite has already been crafted into Mangalloy Ingots, progression can stall. You need Troilite to make the setup that produces more Troilite, so spending every piece too early can leave you effectively soft locked.

Before doing anything with your remaining stock, avoid making a save if you are testing outcomes and trying to preserve flexibility. The warning exists because once your Troilite is committed, there may not be a recovery path in the current balance state.

Important Items

Troilite

Troilite is a finite material right now, with only eight natural spawn nodes available across the game world. Because of that, every piece should be treated as a progression resource rather than something to spend freely.

Mangalloy Ingots

Crafting Troilite into Mangalloy Ingots too early is the main trap. If you convert all of your Troilite and keep none in reserve, you may lose access to the chain required to obtain more.

Metal Farms

Metal Farms are the system meant to offset Troilite scarcity. The catch is that Troilite is needed to get that production loop running, so they are not a true replacement unless you planned for them in advance.

There is also a 20-minute timer involved with the Metal Farm process in the current version.

Axon Bacterial Cultures

Axon Bacterial Cultures are another bottleneck for Metal Farms. Since these are also limited, the number of farms you can build is capped.

Based on the currently available amount, only five Metal Farms can be made.

Key Notes and Tips

  • Do not treat Troilite like a common crafting material.
  • There are only eight spawn nodes for Troilite in the current build.
  • If all Troilite is turned into Mangalloy Ingots, you can end up soft locked.
  • Metal Farms are currently required to sustain further Troilite access.
  • Metal Farms also depend on Axon Bacterial Cultures, which are limited as well.
  • The current cap allows for only five Metal Farms.
  • The 20-minute Metal Farm timer makes mistakes more punishing, so resource planning matters.

Tips and Tricks

  • Keep at least some raw Troilite untouched until your Metal Farm path is secured.
  • Do not mass-craft Mangalloy Ingots the moment you can afford them.
  • Count your available Troilite before every major craft.
  • Count your Axon Bacterial Cultures too, since they are the second limiter on Metal Farms.
  • If you are experimenting with builds or progression order, be cautious with saving after spending Troilite.
  • Prioritize unlocking renewable access before using Troilite for convenience crafting.

Summary

Troilite is one of the tightest resource checks in Subnautica 2 right now. With only eight natural nodes, a five-farm cap tied to Axon Bacterial Cultures, and the risk of soft locking yourself by crafting everything into Mangalloy Ingots, the safest approach is to preserve raw Troilite until your Metal Farm chain is established.
