Guide Background
Heat Adaptation is tied to the infected Angel Comb progression chain and is needed before pushing into Subnautica 2's high-temperature areas. Start from the escape pod and head northwest until you reach the edge of the shallows, then follow the current system down into the basin where the infected Angel Comb is located.
Bring a sonic resonator before you leave. Mobility gear or arm boosters help a lot, and healing packs make the fight safer. If you have a tadpole for extra oxygen support, bring that too.
Operation Steps
Step 1: Head Northwest from the Escape Pod
Leave the escape pod and travel straight northwest until the shallows end. Look for the currents that drop into a basin; that area leads to the infected Angel Comb sequence.
Step 2: Clear the First Juvenile Angel Comb
Follow the tentacle route to the first juvenile Angel Comb. Use the sonic resonator to blast off the glowing blue infection flowers. Once the flowers are gone, the Angel Comb opens up and you can move on.
Step 3: Reach the Southern Juvenile Angel Comb
Take the southern route to the second juvenile Angel Comb. This one sits deeper underground, so watch your oxygen closely. There are only a couple of oxygen plants nearby, so do not drift too far from them.
Step 4: Cleanse the Deep Chamber
Use the same sonic resonator routine here and remove three to four glowing blue flowers. Stay alert for the small biters and leech-like pests that rush you during the fight.
Step 5: Enter the Primary Mature Angel Comb Room
After the southern juvenile is cleared, follow the tentacle back to the main room. The mature Angel Comb is guarded by a large infected shark, but one sonic resonator hit will briefly concuss it and give you room to work.
Step 6: Finish the Final Cleansing
Swim around the room and clear the remaining infection flowers. Keep checking your oxygen route and use the air pockets or oxygen plants before you get boxed in. When the Angel Comb is fully cleansed, interact with it to gain Heat Adaptation.
Important Items
Sonic Resonator
This is the key tool for the entire route. It removes the infection flowers, stuns the shark in the final room, and kills the small pest enemies in one hit.
Oxygen Plants
Several of the chambers have limited oxygen sources. Mark their locations before the fight starts so you do not lose track of them while dodging enemies.
Healing Packs
The small leech-like enemies are easy to ignore, but healing packs make the run much safer if they chip away at your health.
Mobility Gear
Arm boosters or similar mobility equipment help with movement through currents, tunnels, and tight vertical spaces.
Tadpole
If available, bringing a tadpole gives you extra oxygen support and makes the deeper southern section much easier.
Key Notes and Tips
- The infected Angel Comb cannot be activated until every required infection flower is removed.
- The southern juvenile chamber is the main oxygen risk in this route.
- The little pest enemies can be ignored if your health is safe, but one resonator hit will remove them quickly.
- The final shark is far less dangerous than it looks once it is stunned.
- Place a buoy or beacon near important oxygen plants before the final fight.
Tips and Tricks
- Keep the sonic resonator on an easy hotkey; this fight is all about quick reactions.
- Do not chase enemies into dead ends when your oxygen is already low.
- Clear flowers in the corners first so you are not forced into awkward angles later.
- If the shark is still active, use the stun window to reposition and line up the remaining flowers.
- Use the tentacles and basin layout as landmarks so you can retrace your path without getting lost.
Summary
Start northwest from the escape pod, cleanse the juvenile Angel Combs, manage oxygen in the southern chamber, and finish the mature Angel Comb fight with a sonic resonator. Once the final cleansing is complete, interact with the Angel Comb to unlock Heat Adaptation and push into hotter zones.
