Guide Background
The Hydroelectric Turbine becomes available on the way to the old habitat, one of the major story locations north of the life pod. The route starts from the life pod and follows a straight push north until the jellyfish area comes into view.
The main goal here is to scan both Hydroelectric Turbine fragments, pick up the nearby Power Transmitter unlock, and set up external power for your base. You will need habitat building access to place the finished structures afterward.
Operation Steps
Step 1: Head north from the life pod
Leave the life pod and travel directly north. As you start entering the jellyfish area, expect some aggressive fish around the route.
Keep moving past them and continue until you can spot the old habitat below.
Step 2: Scan the first Hydroelectric Turbine fragment
Once the habitat is in sight, descend straight down. The first Hydroelectric Turbine piece is on the seafloor in this area. Scan it before moving on.
Step 3: Move right over the hill for the second fragment
From the first fragment, head to the right. Go over the nearby hill toward the giant jellyfish.
The second fragment is down in that area. Relative to the base, it sits at roughly 400 meters and around 195 degrees, or about 15 degrees off in that direction. Scan this second piece to complete the Hydroelectric Turbine unlock.
Step 4: Collect the nearby unlocks and loot
While you are in the fragment area, check the surroundings for loose loot. There is also an interior wall recipe card, some data, and the Power Transmitter unlock nearby.
Pick these up before leaving so you do not need to retrace the route later.
Step 5: Build the turbine in a water current
After unlocking the blueprint, craft and place the Hydroelectric Turbine through habitat building under exterior facilities.
Do not place it in still water. A turbine set down outside a current will not generate power.
From the base, a nearby current can be found to the southeast, just over the hill. Place the turbine directly inside moving water and build it there. When placed correctly, it rotates and faces with the direction of the current.
Step 6: Link the turbine back to base with Power Transmitters
Build Power Transmitters and connect them from the turbine back toward your base.
To link them properly, hold the transmitter in hand and make sure it has a clear line of sight to the previous power source or transmitter. Continue placing as many as needed until the chain reaches your base.
A single transmitter can cover a fairly decent gap, around 20 meters or so before the link breaks. In this nearby setup, two or three transmitters are usually enough to carry power back to the roof of the base.
Once the final transmitter is attached to the building, the base starts receiving the extra power flow.
Important Items
Hydroelectric Turbine Fragments
You need to scan two fragments to unlock the Hydroelectric Turbine blueprint. Both are found north of the life pod near the jellyfish zone and the route to the old habitat.
Power Transmitter
The Power Transmitter is found in the same general area as the turbine fragments. It is required to carry power from the turbine back to your base.
Interior Wall Recipe Card and Data
There are extra pickups in the same area, including an interior wall recipe card, some data, and loose loot. These are easy to miss if you only focus on the turbine scans.
Crafting Materials
The Power Transmitter uses titanium and copper.
The Hydroelectric Turbine uses titanium, copper, and silver.
Key Notes and Tips
Hydroelectric Turbines only work in moving water. If the turbine is not inside a current, it will not produce power.
The old habitat route is the easiest landmark for finding the fragment area. Travel north from the life pod, pass the jellyfish, then search downward once the habitat is visible.
Hostile fish appear around the jellyfish section, so do not drift too long in open water while looking for the scans.
Power Transmitters need clear line of sight when you place them. If a link refuses to connect, reposition it rather than forcing a longer gap.
Tips and Tricks
If you are making the trip for the first time, finish every scan and pickup in the fragment area before returning home. The turbine pieces, Power Transmitter, and extra data are close enough to collect in one pass.
When testing a turbine location, watch the model after placement. If it turns and aligns with the current, you have picked a valid spot.
Use the roof or outer edge of the base as your final connection point. This usually makes transmitter placement cleaner than trying to route power through awkward terrain at the last second.
Do not overbuild the transmitter chain. Since each one reaches a decent distance, place one, check the link, then extend only as needed.
Summary
The Hydroelectric Turbine unlock is a short detour on the northbound path to the old habitat. Scan both fragments near the jellyfish area, grab the Power Transmitter and extra loot nearby, then place the turbine in a real water current and chain the power back to base with clear transmitter links.
