Guide Background
The BIOSCANNER upgrade is a scanner enhancement you can craft at a Modification Station after finding its scan inside a wreck. The route starts from the Research Outpost, with navigation references from the Life Pod to help you line up the area first.
If you are still locating the region, head from the Life Pod between E and 105 for roughly 1200 meters to reach the alien ruins area near the Research Outpost. From there, use the outpost as your staging point. It is a strong base location and makes return trips much easier.
Operation Steps
Step 1: Reach the Research Outpost area
From the Life Pod, travel between E and 105 for about 1200 meters until you arrive at the alien ruins. The route for the BIOSCANNER starts from the Research Outpost in that area.
Step 2: Head east-southeast toward the wreck
Leave the Research Outpost and travel toward the east-southeast. If you already have the Black Box ISO marker, you can head straight for it. Otherwise, move between E and SE, around the 120 mark, and continue straight until you spot the wreckage.
You do not need the related quest to enter this location and get the BIOSCANNER scan.
Step 3: Enter through the yellow side door
Once you reach the ship, go to the left-hand side and look for a small yellow door. Enter there and start moving through the wreck interior.
There is a lot of loot inside, so leave enough inventory space before going in.
Step 4: Move through the open interior doors
Go through the main section and enter the open door ahead. There are additional upgrades in this area if you have not collected them yet. Continue through the next open door and enter the room beyond.
Scan the cat poster if you want that entry, then pick up the item in the room.
Step 5: Grab the photovoltaic charger
Inside that room, you can pick up the photovoltaic charger. It is useful for the Life Pod or the Tadpole, so it is worth taking while you are already here.
Step 6: Drop through the floor opening
After looting the room, enter the hole in the ground and descend into the lower section of the wreck.
If you brought a Repair Tool, keep it with you. It makes getting back out much easier later.
Step 7: Follow the oxygen path downward
In the larger flooded section, watch for spots with bubbles coming out of them. You can swim over these to restore oxygen, which helps a lot during the descent.
Keep moving downward until you see a bright red light, then go inside that area and continue descending.
Step 8: Scan the BIOSCANNER at the bottom
Near the bottom of the wreck, you will find the BIOSCANNER upgrade to scan. Use your scanner there to unlock it.
Look around while descending, since there are other scannable items in the area as well.
Step 9: Use the Repair Tool to open the way out
A Repair Tool can be used to open the exit path more easily. If you brought one, use it on the way back out.
If you do not have a Modification Station at home yet, there is one inside the wreck. Otherwise, return to base and craft the BIOSCANNER there.
Important Items
BIOSCANNER
This is the main scanner upgrade found at the bottom of the wreck. You need to scan it first, then craft it at a Modification Station.
Research Outpost
The best starting point for this run. It is close to the wreck route and works well as a forward base.
Black Box ISO Marker
If you already have this signal, navigation becomes much easier. It gives you a direct reference for the wreck area.
Photovoltaic Charger
Found inside the wreck before the lower descent. It is useful for the Life Pod or Tadpole and is worth picking up on the same trip.
Repair Tool
Strongly recommended for this route. It helps you open the way out of the wreck and makes the return much less awkward.
Modification Station
Required to craft the BIOSCANNER after scanning it. If you do not have one at your base, there is one inside the wreck.
Key Notes and Tips
- You can reach and scan the BIOSCANNER without having the related quest active.
- Bring free inventory space because the wreck contains a lot of loot and extra upgrades.
- Keep your scanner ready while moving through the wreck, since there are multiple scannable objects along the route.
- Use the bubble vents in the flooded lower section to refill oxygen during the descent.
- The bright red-lit area marks the path deeper toward the BIOSCANNER.
Tips and Tricks
- Set up a base near the Research Outpost if you expect to revisit the area. It saves a lot of travel time.
- If your navigation is off, line up between E and SE around 120 from the outpost and keep moving straight until the wreck appears.
- Do not rush the interior rooms. There are easy-to-miss upgrades before the final descent.
- Bringing the Repair Tool is one of the best ways to avoid a messy exit from the lower section.
- If oxygen is tight, pause your descent and use every bubbling vent you pass instead of trying to swim the whole section in one go.
Summary
The BIOSCANNER is inside a wreck reached from the Research Outpost by heading east-southeast toward the Black Box ISO area. Enter through the yellow side door, work through the open interior rooms, drop into the flooded lower section, follow the red-lit path down, and scan the upgrade at the bottom. Bring a Repair Tool, keep inventory space open, and grab the photovoltaic charger while you are inside.
